This
obsession started innocently enough. I hung some fabric in the garage,
bought a cheap reaper costume, added a few store bought
props, and
poof......instant obsession.
That was Halloween 2006.
Halloween 2007 included a mausoleum, an
upgraded reaper costume, a couple of homemade props, foam tombstones,
fence, a motorized cauldron, and pillars. The neighbors, not to mention
my wife, thought I was crazy. My kids loved it. That was all the
support I needed. Upward and onward!
My haunts have to be
portable since we attend the Halloween events at a
few state parks. Picture a camper completely full of
Halloween
stuff and me trying to set all this up in the dark. It was a lot of
work but well worth it when I was able to interact with the other
campers.
However, the big event was
Trick or Treat night. I set everything up
the night before so that I would have plenty of time to get ready for
the "big night". I rushed home from work to find a huge pile of broken
PVC and torn tarps. The wind had completely destroyed my mausoleum. I
managed to salvage a decent Trick or Treat evening but the
disappointment gnawed at me for a month.
This site will document my
quest for redemption. It will serve as a testament to determination and
a dwindling checking account.
